Chief Executive Officer and Founder


   SecondHeart was founded by Barbara Denise, whose roots are in South Central Los Angeles. While growing up, she learned that her passion was helping people achieve authentic satisfaction in their lives. She created SecondHeart because she wants to provide effective solutions for families and individuals who seek them.  

 She graduated from California State University, Bakersfield, with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and is on track to become a Marriage and Family Therapist by 2028.

Olivia Matthews, a senior accountant, works in the residential care sector. Founder of Bright Finance, she has more than ten years of experience in 501(c)(3) organizations. She offers experience in cash flow management, budgeting, and financial analytics. Olivia holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Accounting. Beyond her professional background she has a strong passion for humanitarian initiatives, especially grassroots organizations like SecondHeart that help feed people in need and provide quality basic goods.

Selena Sweetwine is a Certified Dietary Manager and Assistant Chef at a Senior Nursing Facility. She joined the board of SecondHeart because she believes in providing healthy meals and quality  goods for those in need and educating others in proper nutrition. She combines her knowledge and passion to delivering optimal food service and nutrition to the Southern California region.

Selena Sweetwine

Roxie Jackson is in the entertainment industry and loves to entertain people, making sure they are enjoying  themselves regardless of what's going on in their lives. She chooses to be on the board of SecondHeart because of, "...How expressive it is! Not only are we catering to those in need but we are also growing the minds of people through our service. I love to see growth amongst people especially in the black and brown communities! I will lift my voice, because I am a singer. Praise is what I do! SecondHeart allows me to praise through service of others."

Angelica Wafer has over 15 years experience serving in various roles throughout the City of Los Angeles. She is currently the Chief Administrative Clerk at the Port of Los Angeles. 

She leads a team that supports the administrative needs of the engineers that manage projects throughout the Port and Harbor area.

Ms. Wafer holds a Bachelors Degree in Organizational Management from the University of La Verne and is currently pursuing her MBA at the same institution.

She trusts that the efforts of SecondHeart can reach people when they are in unfortunate situations and give them hope. "I believe heavily in the village concept. We need community, we need to show humanity, show people that we care. Then help them to live their best lives, that is what SecondHeart is all about."
